Cheap Thrills

I lost my job last week. Well technically I didn’t lose it. I know where it is. They just asked me to quit showing up. By the way, security has no sense of humor. Now that my major stream of income has dried up, I need my thrills to be cheap or free. Here are just a few inexpensive enjoyments I’ll have to look forward to:
10. Play games online. I find myself with extra hours in the day which demand to be filled. What better way than playing Boogle Bash until my fingers bleed? There are so many games available on line I’m sure to never grow bored.
9. Visit my local library. I go to the library at least once a month and come home with an armload of books and books on tape. I read at least one book a week (MSR $10.00) and listen to a book in the car (MSR $30.00) so I save over a hundred dollars a month borrowing instead of buying. Also, the library sells used books dirt cheap, so if I want a keeper I can afford it.
8. Take the dogs to the park.
7. Watch TV online. When I stop payment on my satellite bill at least I’ll be comforted knowing I can still watch my favorite shows on sites such as Hulu or freetvonline.
6. Have a spa day at home.
5. Shop at garage sales. I can spend the whole day rummaging through other people’s cast offs and I’m rarely tempted to take any of it home with me. It keeps me sane, since I can no longer buy stuff myself; to see all the junk other people buy. Since it’s insanely hot in Arizona right now, I can also watch back to back episodes of Clean House to get my fix.
4. Order free samples. There are some great sites that compile all the offers for free stuff. Now that I have nothing better to do, and no money to spend doing it, I can hang out at freemania.net or cheapfree.com. After all, you can never have too many trial packets of shampoo.
2. Rent movies at Redbox. Everywhere I go these days it seems a Redbox has popped up. It’s no wonder, because renting a movie for a buck is much more appealing than seeing it in the theater. Our family of four rarely goes to the movies, because the tickets and concessions set us back $60.
1. Order a new flavor for my e cigarette. I’m already saving a ton since I quit smoking tobacco cigarettes, so I can afford to splurge on smoke juice. The hardest part will be deciding what to try first.
